Professor

Min forskningsverksamhet har som målsättning att rekonstruera naturliga klimat- och miljöförändringar under olika avsnitt av de senaste glacialcyklerna genom undersökningar av kvartära avlagringar, främst sjösediment och torvlagerföljder. De flesta av mina projekt baseras delvis på analys av naturligt förekommande stabila isotoper av syre (18O/16O), väte (2H/1H), kol (13C/12C), eller kväve (15N/14N). Genom att kombinera isotopanalyser med paleoekologiska metoder kan klimatrelaterade förändringar av olika fysikaliska och biologiska processer klarläggas, t ex atmosfärens cirkulationsmönster, lokala och regionala vegetationsförändringar, hydrologiska variationer och biogeokemiska kretslopp. Min forskning är speciellt inriktad mot förändringar i nederbördens isotopsammansättning, kolets kretslopp i sjöar och våtmarker samt alpina trädgränser som resultat av storskaliga klimatvariationer. Jag arbetar huvudsakligen med Senglaciala och Holocena klimatförändringar i subarktiska delar av Skandinavien, men deltar även i forskningsprojekt baserade längs den arktiska trädgränsen i Kanada och Eurasien, i Medelhavsområdet och på Tristan da Cunha i Sydatlanten. Jag deltar också aktivt i undervisningen inom grundutbildning och forskarutbildning på geologiska institutionen.
