The Laboratory for Ceramic Research

The Laboratory for Ceramic Research is mainly involved in ceramic/archaeological research. This activity serves the archaeological science by providing laboratory investigations of ceramic artifacts.

Fundamental to the work at KFL is the description of production and use of the objects analysed, from the viewpoint of producer and consumer.

For the study of ceramic objects we offer a variety of laboratory analysis such as thin-section analysis, h XRF- analysis, SEM-EDS and LA-ICP-MS. We also provide 14C-dating of carbon entrapped in the ceramic ware, such as soot from original firing and use.

Furthermore, the Laboratory for Ceramic Research serves as a center of education in the field of pottery documentation and registration. Series of courses are given each year to groups of students as well as to individual researchers.
