

Jeg er palæoøkolog og laboratorieansvarlig for Laboratoriet för 14C-datering.
Min forskning fokuserer på at bruge fossile pollen data til at rekonstruere fortidens landskabs- og vegetationssammensætning kvantitativt, ved at anvende modeller for pollenspredning og den relative pollenproduktivitet for forskellige plantearter.
For at gøre landskabsrekonstruktioner og tolkning af palæoøkologiske data relevante kræves, ud over en forståelse af de forskellige datatyper (proxies), også en god aldresbestemmelse af aflejringerne. Den kan opnås ved hjælp af Kulstof-14 metoden. For sø-sedimenter forudsætter en god aldersbestemmelse at man daterer terrestrisk materiale, for eksempel små plante-makrofossiler.
Kvantitative landskabsrekonstruktioner er relevante for naturbevarelse og -forvaltning, hvor de er nødvendige for at forstå langevarige økologiske processer samt effekterne af den historiske og forhistoriske menneskelige påvirkning, som ligger bag den nuværende biodiversitet. Desuden er kvantitative rekonstruktioner vigtige for klimaforskning, idet arealdækket, både nu og i fortiden, spiller en rolle for klimaet gennem effekter på kulstofkredsløb, evaporanspiration og reflektionen af solens stråler (albedo).
Mine metoder inkluderer pollenanalyse, indsamling af søsedimenter, pollen/vegetations modelering og statistiske analyser, samt analyser af vegetationssammensætning, både i felten og ved hjælp af GIS.
